is a virtual space where Liyana Aris documents her evolving modest personal style, which is based on the art of looking casually stylish while still remaining modest and doing it all on a budget; about 93% of her closet are filled with affordable things. (PS: The remaining 7% has a lot to do with her secret addiction to Adidas shoes and her occasional splurges on discounted high-end bags and clutches, shhh.) [+]

Hi guys! Just letting you know I'm now in Seoul!!! I can't believe it at times myself!!! Honestly, I say that every time I'm in a new place, but it really is true. Last year we Shah and I ended our back-and-forth trips to Japan and we passed by almost one whole year before we were surprised with our Shanghai tripand after that it was Chennai, and now here we are in South Korea. It's unbelievable, I just feel truly blessed.

I'm really excited about being here as I heard great things about this city. I arrived only yesterday morning but I'm already falling for Seoul. I will be here until Saturday but with Shah working most of the time, we won't get to explore the city as much but still, just being here is already amazing.

If you haven't already followed me on Instagram, do give my account @theliyanaaris a follow as I'll be doing more updates there!

Also, it's already the third day in the month of Ramadhan, so I hope all my Muslim readers are managing the fasting well so far. As for me, the fasting hours here are very slightly longer than in Malaysia, but so far so good!

Catch up with you guys soon XO

My older sister Fiza, younger sister Rina (who has been mistaken for my twin a couple of times even though she's six years younger than me and YES this is important to mention) and I all have very different style, but that's not to say we don't share things from our respective closets. For example, this little structured bag is currently in Rina's posession, while I exchanged my green-black-white leopard-print sweater with Fiza's floral embroidered top. I'm always saying sharing clothes is "what sisters are for".
PS: Even better if you have similar shoe size, but unfortunately for me I can't share shoes like Fiza and Rina can.
Sharing is fun but not everything goes, though. Just so you know, I like denim jackets a little too much but until today Rina (and her stingy ass) still isn't ready to let me borrow this jacket she's wearing here, even though I was the one who picked it out at H&M Les Quatre Temps in Paris freakin four years ago when our dad asked me to help him buy something for his littlest girl.
    Ah well, patience, I suppose.
Or, you know, maybe I'll just finally quietly borrow it when she's out on a date or something.

PPS: Been meaning to share Rina's outfit for the longest timecheck out the outfit I wore on this very same day.

My one tip: Wear oversized men's shirt, tuck it messily into your jeans, add interesting accessories, and then tell yourself you look cool because you should always believe in yourself and your worth.
Also, if no one else thinks you actually look cool or even mildly cool, YOU DO ANYWAY GURLLL.

And oh another tip: If an accessory appears a little obnoxious, even better. Like my shoes here.

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I induct something new into my wardrobe and I would assemble my entire outfit around that one thing; in this case, it was these lips print slip-ons. My little sister and her boyfriend spotted them on sale in a mall, took a photo of them and sent it to me with this message: "We KNOW you want these."

      They know me so well.

You guys ever planned an outfit around one item before? Can't be just me!

It was 7:15pm, already dusk. Daylight was almost done leaving and it was raining. I turned to Shah and said, "Well, serves me right for not wanting to take outfit photos earlier in the afternoon."

My older sister asked Shah and I to join her on an impromptu one-night trip to Genting Highlands with her kids, which we were totally game for. I booked our hotel room online three hours before leaving to meet my sisters, my mom, nephew and niece at the hotel, and that night we played Finding Dory Monopoly; Shah and I spectacularly lost each round to our 7-year-old nephew and 4-year-old niece, which was hilarious.
We spent the whole of next day at the top of Genting Highlands, going into Snow World (so fun even with the gross grey slushie they call "snow", but terribly bloody cold) and stuffing ourselves at Burger & Lobster.

It was such a fun day out (and super tiring!), one that I couldn't wait to start that I put off shooting my OOTD until the rainy dusk. Can't tell you how glad I am that these photos turn out OK, even with the crappy lighting!
If you don't know this, I have a thing for matching pieces, like this patterned set and this bold striped one so I was happy to find this pinstriped Adidas sweater because it matches the navy pinstripe pants I got in Shanghai just nicelythe perfect lazy comfy outfit for my fun day out!

I'm big on recycling items from my closet to form new outfits for this little virtual style journal of mine; I'm basically like the hijabi, more casual, less proper version of Kate Middleton, really. But it's always exciting to add something new to your OOTD, isn't it? Today it's these little ankle fishnet socks, which is obviously what all style-suckers are trying out and are pretty much unanimously loving (I'm one of them, of course).

It was a mystery; I tried searching for a pair in local stores right before my Shanghai trip in March but for the life of me I could not spot one. Mystery, I tell you.
So, just in case, I brought back two identical pairs. Just in case...

To see how I style the other stuff from this outfit, check them out in these posts:
Plaid robe (not a bathrobe, I swear)
White t-shirt (with glittery gold pocket)
Ripped jeansBlack boxy sling bag (one of my best finds from Tokyo!)

I don't think I can ever stop trying to figure out what exactly my current style is. As always, I find myself at loss for wordsliterally. At times I feel like it's never going to happen. The figuring out thing, I mean.
I'm constantly in envy of those who seem to have it all figured out; the person who owns such a streamlined wardrobe that most people know exactly what to expect from her (or him). Sometimes I even wished I have that person's style identity because honestly it would simplify shopping a whole bunch (plus I wouldn't be having all these needless dramatic style identity "crisis").

I saw this printed Snow White denim jacket hanging in the Disney x Meters/Bonwe section (where I also got this Mickey patch jeans and Mickey printed jeans) and I knew immediately I GOTS TO OWN IT.
OK so I own a denim jacket that looks exactly like this Snow White one from the front but when you turn around in it it's like ka-pow

Now, lusting after this jacket must say something about my current style, right? What do you think it says?

OK, I see it now. Leopard-print and stripes really actually do go well together, as I learned before this quick visit to Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai!

Except, um, maybe it'd be better if you don't throw a bright orange t-shirt into the midst. But more on that later...

How do these bloggers have time to take a what-I-wear-to-the-airport outfit? I mean, it's not like I'm always rushing whenever I go to the airport, not at all. I do one thing at a time and suddenly it's "Oh look it's time for boarding already??" (Also, it doesn't help that Shah has free passes to the business lounge, which has way better food than in-flight's so I always fill up first, plus I eat real slow.)

And where do they put their luggage when they're taking photos? I mean, I'm always holding things in both hands even after I check inthings I can't possibly put down while I pose somewhere without constantly nervously glancing at my stuff, checking if they're there or if someone's tampering with them or whatever. (Is it this a rational fear, I think it is.)

Basically, no time for airport photoshoot so I figured this out: do my what-I-wear-to-the-airport outfit before I actually get to the airport.

It was the day Shah and I were leaving Shanghai to go back to Malaysia. That very rainy morning, we made time to visit one last place, the Yuyuan Gardenwhich isn't as beautiful as the Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou, but pretty nonetheless!

It can get pretty cold and uncomfortable sitting hours in planes so I decided to be super casual comfy and wear this cosy fuzzy leopard-print cardigan (first worn with jeans here). I love how it looks against the navy and white stripes of my pants (also love this grey version), except I really wished I had paired the cardi and pants with a plain navy or black t-shirt instead of this bright orange-red Adidas. That being said, it's still a t-shirt that I adore even though it's not the best choice here, AND even though it is so bloody hard to photograph! It looks neon in most photos, but rest assured it's tamer in real-life.

So, question: what t-shirt would you have paired with this leopard cardi + striped pants?
