H&M Bird Of Paradise Print Top and Skirt

Sadly, 2017 is the final year of Malaysia hosting Formula One in Sepang. It was just last year that I started to love the sport but now my dream of annually watching it has come to a crashing end (pun intended). Shah and I talk about watching it in neighbouring Singapore and perhaps even Monaco (hey, dream big, right?) but it'll be far in the future, seeing as how that isn't exactly financially viable at the mo  we'll just have to put a pin on it for now!

I've always had a thing for matching sets but this one particularly attracted my attention for a reason: when Shah and I got married almost 8 years ago, we had a bird of paradise wedding cake! If I had my dad's gardener blood in me, my garden would definitely be filled with bird of paradise flowers.

I've never been a fan of babydoll tops but I couldn't help it with this one; the adorable print just sucked me in and then the matching skirt just doubles the adorbs factor so I was basically helpless here, guys!

Seeing as how they're both sheer, layering is a must though which is always an issue when you plan to spend time outdoors, where you will inevitably sweat in hot and humid Malaysia! I decided to take out the Airism long-sleeve top from Uniqlo for a spin and see if it lives up to its reputation.

So, did Airism work? I'm a fan of Uniqlo's heattech products but I was a bit sceptical about their Airism range, especially after trying out their hijab inner-wear that did nothing for me  although, to be fair, it was the design of the inner-wear that put me off and nothing to do with the material.

But I'm happy to report that the navy blue Airism top I had underneath the babydoll top worked like a charm; it was cooling to my skin the wholeee day. I'm used to layering long-sleeved tops underneath revealing tops so I can assure you that swapping a regular cotton tee for Airism would work in your favours. I'll be stocking on other Airism products for sure, but I kind of wish they have a skirt in that range now!

Since I don't experiment as much with makeup anymore, the need to purchase makeup (or should I say the "want") is a lot lesser than clothes. But when H&M's makeup range is not available in Malaysia and I go to a place where it is available, Imma get my hands on some of them goodies, mmmkay.

I hadn't found an eyebrow powder that I liked  always preferred brow pencil over it  but I decided to give H&M Eyebrow Powder and Wax a go. Their brow palette in Espresso contains a cool medium brown powder, a dark grey-almost black one, and clear wax.
This was the first time I tried out clear wax, and I am sold.

But let's talk the powders first: I LOVE them. Some of the problems with previous tried brow powders were no matter how much powder I used, I couldn't build it up to the right amount of intensity I wanted, plus they rubbed off too fast (especially when my hijab came into contact with them). Both powders in the Espresso palette proved to me that all previous brow powders I experimented with were crap, basically.

I know that some people apply the wax after drawing their eyebrows but I read some tips about how it's better to apply wax before the shadow to ensure the powders sticks to my skin and brow hairs better, and this method works really well for me.

I don't know if this is overkill, but after I'm done with the wax and powders, I layer the clear H&M Brow Shaping Gel on top. Aside from making brow hairs look more natural and look more like, well, hair, again, the gel also helps to groom my unruly brow hairs further and can coax them to go in the directions that I want them to go!

It sounds a little ironic how I need to apply more products to make my brows look more natural, but it's like how some people spray face mist after finishing off their face, or when you consider the arsenal of products needed to achieve the perfect "no-makeup" makeup look  that's makeup for you, I suppose!

I really did like Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel, only as much as I like the bold-brow look, the shade 4 I had was a tad too strong for my liking. It's possible to go veeery gentle-handed with it to make it less intense, but do you know hard it is to be gentle when you're due to leave your house in 10 minutes and you still haven't done your concealer, cheeks, and lips?

I've been abandoning my Benefit ever since I got my hands on these two H&M brow products, and yes I feel bad about it, guys, since Benefit is so darn pricey!

Fun fact: did you know I started this blog as a makeup / beauty blog, and that it was called "Let's Not Kiss & Just Makeup?"
I was so proud of that name, guys.

I'm pretty bummed that H&M makeup isn't in Malaysia but since I'm already loving these brow products (and the lipsticks and blush I got as well), I sincerely hope their makeup range will make its way here in the near future!

              Zara Tiered Ruffle White Shirt
Zara Tiered Ruffle White Shirt Short Front Long Back
Is it weird to say I surprised myself by bringing this white shirt with tiered ruffles home with me? It's not really "my style" but yet I felt compelled to make a space for it in my closet. And you know what? I really, really like the top.

The reason why I stopped short of using the word "love" when it comes to this short-at-the-front long-at-the-back shirt? It is so bloody hard to get rid of the wrinkles in it, MY GOODNESS, I don't think I have ever owned anything so adorable but so troublesome, ever.

Zara Tiered Ruffles White Shirt Mango Ripped Jeans

And don't get me started on how challenging it is to iron the "tail" part of the shirt and its ruffles. I guess this will be one of those things that I will have to exclusively and constantly send to the laundry shop! But the fact that it's unique with interesting details definitely make up for its refusal to be wrinkle-free.

                Yes, definitely.
                Well. Sort of.

                I think...?

H&M Moon and Stars Black Satin Dress
I absolutely ADORE this black satin dress, with its beautiful moon and stars print, but in the end it still couldn't save this outfit for me unfortunately.
Will explain why later, but just so you guys know: not every outfit I ever shot was a complete success, and this is definitely one of them.
(And more often than not, those failed ones do NOT make it into this blog!)

There is an unusual little shopping place in Seoul called Common Ground that is made up of bright blue shipping containers. Sounds cool? It is. Designed with a large courtyard that includes a kitschy food truck in the middle, fairy lights strewn all around, and "COMMON GROUND" written in big letters on the containers, it is intended to be a 100% Instagrammable. (And it is.)

Food Court Common Ground in Seoul
I was determined to do a full-blown photoshoot with the containers as my background in this second trip to Seoul since I couldn't make it happen on my first trip there in May. Shah and I got to Common Ground right before the sun went down but the moment I had a look at the first few shots Shah took, I knew the whole outfit was a fail for me.

Initially the black satin dress dress was to be paired with a pair of navy wide-legged pants but thinking the pants looked too severe, I ditched them right before leaving my hotel room and went with this patched/ripped jeans instead.

My mistake? Thinking any jeans could save an outfit. Even though these jeans looked fine with my oversized Cinderella top, they looked too "clunky" with this delicate dress. I've talked about a disadvantage of traveling (dressing-up-wise), and ahhh if only I had access to my whole jeans collection!

H&M Moon and Stars Black Satin Dress
                      Common Ground in Seoul
I would have preferred a less busy, much slimmer pair of jeans, maybe with a cool raw hem (a pair of jeans that actually does not exist in my closet, though!) or perhaps my plain flared jeans to complement the dress' old-school vibes.

The footwear would have to change to match the different jeans, too; I like how the colours in my colourful Converse sneakers match the dress beautifully but with the particular jeans here, they just don't look right to me.

H&M Moon and Stars Black Satin Dress
My hijab here was part of the fail, too. There are different hijab styles that suit certain outfits better in my opinion, and what I had on here just isn't the right one! I struggled with tying the red scarf into a "right" style before stepping out of the door and pretty much just "settled". It was only obvious to me how messy it was in the first few shots Shah had taken.

FYI, you won't be seeing a clear shot of the right side of my face in this whole entire post!
(Also: isn't it obvious how not fully comfortable I felt in this outfit?)

We ran out of light pretty fast but I think I salvaged the whole situation by getting some pretty shots of Common Ground, which was decorated more than normal for an event they hosted. (Ironically posing around in my Converse in a Vans event setting!) I considered not posting any pic of my outfits but since I don't appear entirely horrendous, well, why not?

Bohemian Denim Jacket with Little Pom Poms
Does everyone have one thing in their closet that they have too much of? I think it's pretty common for a person to think she has too many denim jeans (don't we all) but how about, say, denim jackets? Like, what is the normal number of denim jacket a girl should have in her closet?

I just remembered I blogged about how you can never own too many denim jackets, a post I just read again to jog my memory on what I had to say for the topic and DAYUM did I really buy six denim jackets in total from my Japan trips? I mean, I'm not surprised, looking at my denim jacket collection but still, dayummm  Japan really gave me the denim jacket bug!

It's funny how I "firmly" told myself in that post "no more blue denim jacket" because um yes I definitely got a couple of new ones since then, including this bohemian denim jacket. How could I resist? The back is so kitschy, and unlike some people who get turned off by kitsch I am all for a bit-to-a lot of it. I think it was the little pom poms hanging off the back that really hooked me in, all the way to the cashier.
(The fact that it was on sale and became affordable was a major factor too, of course.)

Denim Jacket with Pom Pom Sling Bag with Pom Poms
SO many ways to dress up this crazy jacket but this time around for my day out in Seoul, I matched it with my ruffle red dress and my colourful Converse sneakers (my first ever Converse sneakers, by the way), plus my new-ish baby green pom pom tasseled sling bag that made its debut in Affordorable with a black ruffles denim top.

Bohemian Denim Jacket with Pom Poms
Don't worry, I don't have a crazy number of denim jackets to share with you  nowhere near, say, 30 or whatever, not even 20 I'm sure (I haven't counted, but I'm pretty positive about this). Rest assured, I get a lot of use out of each and every jacket (I usually grab one on my way to the movies) so it's all good, guys!

This is one of the more priceless tops I own, hands down. (I love my Disney things, after all!) I got this oversized peachy pink Cinderella top when I went to Disneyland Shanghai, alongside this Alice In Wonderland box clutch  really, how adorable is the top, right?? It's not cookie-cutter "adorable" either, if that makes sense, which make me even more uhbsessed with it.

I tend to not take things I treasure most out of my closet too often, out of (perhaps a little irrational) fear I would cause damage to it somehow, so this was only the second time I wore the top since buying it in April. I wore it first when I went to a fashion show my older sister co-organised in May but decided against sharing an outfit photo on Instagram from that night because I really wanted to do a full-blown outfit shoot wearing it. (#thatbloggerlife and all...)

Aside from wanting to preserve their condition, there are certain things in my closet I find too precious to wear out without having anywhere special to go to, or something special to do (same thing I said in a post about this oversized denim jacket).

PS: I wonder if I'm the only one who does this? Or do most people just live in the moment and put on ballgowns to their neighbourhood park in the afternoon if their heart desires it?

I did think visiting Seoul for the second time was special enough to warrant this outfit though. I couldn't be happier that I got to shoot it at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which is arguably the bloody coolest building in all of Seoul!

                              Disney Cinderella Top

I have to admit, this top is not the easiest to style, especially for a hijabi like me since I need to layer to "add sleeves" to it. I'm racking my brain thinking about what to pair the top with the next time I wear it  perhaps a skirt? We'll see what happens... (Which won't be for a while!)
