My Lichtenstein 'Girl With Hair Ribbon' Poster | Favourite Corner At Home

15 December 2017

First of all, let me just put this out there, so as to not panic my fellow Malaysians: I definitely do NOT wear shoes in my house, this photoshoot was purely dramatized for the sake of Affordorable only.
(Also, those pumps were a 100% clean guysss, I'm not a monster.)

I took these photos last year right before I shot this polka dot peplum top + red heels outfit, but just never shared them (until today, that is, obviously). At that time I had just finished rearranging some of the things in my living room, then asked Shah to capture me in this particular little space which I call my "favourite corner".

It's probably the most "feminine" space in my house, what with the super pink carpet and some cutesy decorative items I bought in Paris, like the "BONHEUR" wooden letters, picture frames (that are not filled with photos), and a Breakfast At Tiffany's jewellery box (that I don't keep jewelleries in). This corner also includes the only armchair at my place — an armchair that I fell madly in love with at first sight — and the Playboy Bunny hot pink cushion I brought back from Christchurch, New Zealand, where I studied.

What got me so excited on this day was my latest addition of the Lichtenstein poster of 'Girl With Hair Ribbon', purchased just the day before. Shah was totally not feeling the poster at first though, questioning where it would be placed at our place. I didn't know where myself but here's the thing: I was lucky enough to catch a Lichtenstein exhibition back when I lived in Paris and LOVED his work, so I only knew the poster deserved to go home with me!

Until today the poster is placed on the same place as in these photos, right on my piano that I no longer play but has real sentimental values, right in my favourite spot in our home!

I have this idea to hang a poster of van Gogh's The Starry Night somewhere in the house, as it is both Shah's and my favourite painting...perhaps some day in the future.
Do you guys have a favourite art work (a copy of it, anyway!) hanging in your house?

  1. What a cool post Liyana! It's fun to see a wee bit of your home! I LOVE the chair!! The pattern on it is very sophisticated and the black and white makes it versatile in terms of adding all kinds of colors. The bright pink accessories are very fun too.
I also enjoy seeing your art purchase. This is mindful of romance comic books and although it's not like the Disney looks that you love it is in that same general graphic arts category. It will look great with your chair!!
Thanks for sharing a bit more of yourself here. Is removing shoes indoors a huge cultural trait there in Malaysia?
I'll have to send you some interior photos of our new home!? Love, Jude

    1. Yes please I would LOVE to see how you decorate your new place, Judy!

I constantly think about changing up my house's interior decor but Shah and I travel so much, I just never found the time (and energy) for it.

And yes, ALL Malaysians remove their shoes before entering a house, regardless of race and faith, it's definitely a part of the Malaysian culture. Probably why I felt so at home in Japan too, haha! How about in the states though, Judy?

  2. I used tonnage a Roy Lichtenstein book. With all of these fantastic pop art posters! I have one painting that used to hang in my grandparents house for as long as I can remember. That has always been my favorite. It s a modern version of ,,wild horses,,.

    1. I find it hard to understand certain art (I call them artsy fartsy) but pop art definitely speaks to me!
