Favourite Zebra-Print Cardigan & Floral Embroidered Boots | Photo Quality In Blogging

18 March 2018

You know, an outfit post like this one makes me think about my purpose for blogging. Unlike other style/fashion bloggers  who share beautiful magazine-worth images, or share the latest goss in style & fashion, or educate others about the fashion industry, or so many other things, really — mine is really simple enough: to share the outfits I wear, which are comprised of affordable things and are modest, and which I hope could serve as an inspiration to whomever they could inspire.

So if that's the case, does it matter if the quality of the photos I've shot isn't up to par, or at least up to my own personal usual standards? (Which isn't all that high, but it's still pretty up there, I think.)

Or is the outfit the only thing that should matter?

Take this outfit, for example. Nope, this isn't my best outfit ever but guysss I absolutely adore this zebra-print cardigan, which was last worn in Tokyo (and can be seen plenty of times in this blog, really). And those floral embroidered boots, oh mah God, I practically fell in love with them at first sight. It would make sense for me to share photos of me wearing them, especially when I wear them together, right?

Except it took me a while to decide if I should because I took these photos at night with terrible artificial lighting and I got frustrated trying to edit them to my liking. I consider binning them all together but in the end I couldn't bring myself to do so, as I had waited so long to travel to a place where I could re-wear my zebra-print cardi (it's hot and humid where I live, remember?) and also those boots — which, may I add, are the same floral boots I wore with my staticky Ines de la Fressange scarf, in an outfit post that I almost didn't want to publish, too.

So should the outfit comes first when it comes to publishing a post on my blog, or should the quality of the photos matter a lot too? I actually have no answer to my own question, so all I know is I'm just going to go with my gut with every single outfit I shoot!

But what do you think? Would you expect your favourite bloggers to put style first or the photos' quality first in their outfit posts? Let me know what's important to you in the comment section down below!

          1. Go with your gut my friend! You're doing a great job and I think that your photos (Shah's photos) have measured up on every occasion. Think of those wonderful photos of snow and ice on the winter island adventure!! I think Shah has really risen to each challenge beautifully and managed to showcase your fashions as well as some amazing surrounding views and vistas!!
I love those floral boots Liyana. The embroidery is so pretty! I do have a problem wearing a higher heel but have found other styles of embroidered shoes to satisfy my cravings. I also see that Beetlejuice graphic tee peeking out from under your fun zebra sweater!! Love, Jude

            1. Thank you, Judy! Perhaps I'm just overly critical of our photography, I always just want to have better and better photos. Shah and I try our best, but we also look for ways to improve.

I loveee my boots but I think they would be a bit too hot for Malaysia (didn't stop me from buying them though, did it?), but I think I'd try to find an opportunity to put them on again anyway!

Ooof I can't do heels either, these have a tiny bit of height on them but chunky enough for me though. And YESSS my Beetlejuice tee is such a gem, I'm thrilled you noticed it!

          2. Liyana please calm down. Your photos are fire and I am glad you didn't bin this post or that previous one. I think we're our worst critics sometimes but like you, I just follow my gut. I'm not blogging to appear pristine and perfect as in real life, I am only human. I am again obsessed with the styling of your zebra cardigan and I thought the photos are bomb because of your energy. I know some people love the magazine-like visuals and that's great if they're happy with that. For me, you share a lot of fashion trends to suit different weather temps for a tropical girl and so I declare that you are so FASHION! Hahaha. :p

            1. I am definitely my own worst critic - but then again I am grateful for that, of course, as I can't imagine having people telling you the things you've done wrong.

But anyway I'm glad I have you and Judy (from the comment above yours) who have been nothing but supportive of what I do here. I promise I'll try to be a little less harsh on my pictures! My goal is to share outfits more so than the "visual", and I need to remind myself of that from time to time.
