7 Favourite Style (And Fashun) Quotes | Sage Green Pyjama Suit

7 September 2018

Are you thinking, "That green pyjama-like suit on Liyana looks so cool" or "Oh God, whatever possessed Liyana to put on a PYJAMA in broad daylight?"

Truth be told, I accept both of these opinions because this green matchy set does extraordinarily resemble a pyjama — albeit the most fab pyjama ever, though, amirite? As fab as I thought it was, the suit was relatively pricier than most of my existing clothes so I slept on it for two weeks before taking the plunge (basically reinforcing my collector status).

PS: It isn't actually a pyjama though, don't worry, plus it should be noted that the heavy material feels like it would be very uncomfortable to sleep in.

I absolutely adore this suit; I hadn't owned anything sage green in my closet, plus HOW DELIGHTFUL ARE THE PRINTS guys, with drawings of Malaysia's national flower the hibiscus and coconut trees?

I bought it with a clear understanding that not everyone is going to like it. In fact, I know that most people I know wouldn't even be caught wearing it. I can only attribute my desire to own this suit to one thing: fashun, the word that is thrown around a lot by style enthusiasts, and used by me to describe something about my outfit that I know would not be universally (or more accurately, locally) accepted but yet is SO ME anyway.

People might think this sage green pyjama suit isn't the most tasteful thing ever but I'm OK with that, as I'm reminded of this quote:

"A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste - it's hearty, it's healthy, it's physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I'm against."
- Diana Vreeland

I'm always trying to zero in on what my personal style really is but it's hard to do when my individualistic style naturally evolves over time. I love experimenting too much anyway that trying to narrow down my style to merely a word or two has never proven to be a success. (Extroverted might just be one of them, though, but not the only one either!)

For this reason, I find turning to my favourite quotes by notable figures in the fashion and media industries useful in guiding me through my experimental style journey, in helping me find pieces that are me — just like this pyjama suit.

I sincerely hope they will help you in your own journey too

"I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful but also to reassure them, give them confidence."
- Yves Saint Laurent

"I think that there is beauty in everything. What "normal" people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it."
- Alexander McQueen

"Buy less, choose well."
- Vivienne Westwood

"When a woman says "I have nothing to wear!", what she really means is there's nothing here for who I'm supposed to be today."
    - Caitlin Moran

"Fashion should be a form of escapism and not a form of imprisonment."
    Alexander McQueen

"Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It's not about brands. It's about something else that comes from within you."
    - Ralph Lauren

    1. I read this post and never commented...!? THAT, was an oversight!!
I LOVE the pajama suiting look on you Liyana!! This is a very classy and bold silhouette and you definitely know how to "wear it with attitude"
There's no doubt in my mind that your style continues to evolve in unpredictable ways. I like that a lot, and I think it shows your open minded flare for expressing the many aspects of your personality!

      1. Honestly, Judy, I think you are the kindest to always leave comments on my blog, I don't know if I can ever say enough thanks for it. I truly, truly appreciate you <3 <3 <3

I'm always happy that when you like my outfit but for some reason a happier that you approve of THIS. It's a little controversial, I think. But my mom surprisingly liked it a lot too! I suppose as much as I enjoy dressing how I choose to, it's always nice to get the approval of people around you.

    2. This post is exactly why I love your fashun, girl! You know yourself to be able to pull off so many different types of outfits. I, for one, love the hibiscus and coconut tree pajama suit. The sage green is a delight to look at because of its mellow earthiness and I love how you accessories and complete the outfit with similar earthy hues. Thank you for making me smile and inspiring me with your colorful outfit story. Always a pleasure coming here. Can you do a collecter OOTD? Like, if you had to style an outfit that expressed your passionate collector spirit, what kind of outfit would you come out with? Heheh. Happy weekend fashun guru! :D xoxo

      1. I would be aghast to come across a Malayian who isn't into hibiscus and coconut trees I think, haha! I love how you describe the shade of green as "mellow earthiness", it's so accurate! Confession: after taking the photos I looked at them in my camera and in dismay said to Shah "The colour of my bag and shoes and tudung don't match!" and he looked at me like I've lost it and was like what am I talking about, hahaha! But it all turned out well at the end, I'm glad you like the combo of it all.

A collector OOTD, oh my! Truthfully this outfit would fit that very well, I think! But I'd probably switched out the bag, to be honest, even though it IS a cute bag. It's actually my younger sister's bag, oopsie - I bought it for her in Jakarta, and as much as I liked the bag, I didn't think about owning it myself.

But the idea of creating a new "collector" OOTD is interesting. I think you mean an outfit comprised of my most favourite things that I've collected, yes? Hope I got that right, because the wheels in my head are spinning!
